January is high season. If you are a music lover, you won’t want to miss Rebel Salute Music Festival. Will Shaggy be doing his biennial charity concert while you are there? If you love to run, would you like to join a 5K or 10K?
February is Reggae month but don’t limit yourself only to thoughts of Bob Marley! We love Bob, but to focus solely on him would be a disservice to all the other souls who struggled to get their music heard and build reggae from the grassroots. Learn about old school reggae up to present day musicians.
It’s not all about music in Jamaica in February. There is a seafood festival as well as the Ocho Rios Orchid Show!
March is a prime month to expect flower shows. If you love flowers, you will think you are in heaven. Carnival sometimes happens in March depending on when Easter falls. Don’t forget Spring Break. If you are looking for wild parties try Negril; otherwise, try one of the other resort areas.
High season technically ends on April 15th. Hotel prices start dropping and people in the know can expect some deals. If Easter falls in April, there are many activities, especially on Easter Monday, which is a holiday in Jamaica. You can look forward to a kite festival. Car racing is also big on Easter Monday. And, of course, there is Carnival.
May brings Style Week, a well-anticipated fashion experience. Flower lovers will adore the Mandeville Horticultural Show. For foodies, there is Table Talks Awards.
Music lovers will love the Ocho Rios International Jazz Festival. Fashionista will appreciate Caribbean Fashion Week. Film buffs will want to check out GATFFEST Film Festival. You can also show your support for cancer survivors at Relay for Life.
There is a lot going on in July. Dance season opens. There are still polo matches. If you are up for the drive to the South Coast, there is the Little Ochi Seafood Festival. Reggae Sumfest is legendary among music lovers. Dream Weekend will be in full swing in Negril.
Almost the entire first week of August is a celebration. The combination of honoring emancipation day and Independence Day creates great opportunity to celebrate our culture and heritage through food, music and the arts.
There aren’t many annual events in Jamaica in September. There is a bridal show in Montego Bay that’s free. The decorations are usually beautiful so walking through the exhibits is fun!
Surprisingly, there are quite a few events in Jamaica in October considering that it is low season. Events honoring our national heroes are popular for National Heroes Day. If you love 5Ks, the most notable is one for those with special needs sponsored by Digicel. If you are a foodie, there is the Food and Drink Festival. If you are into fashion, there is the Ocean Style Fashion Showcase.
November seems to have a lot going on centered around food. If you have ever sampled our local cuisine, you will understand why. Its Restaurant Week as well as the Nyam Food and Music Festival in November.
It’s still low season until December 15th. Take advantage of the low rates during this time.
Experience Christmas in Jamaica. Try some of the traditional foods for a unique experience. If you love theatre, the season starts in late December!
